Barcode capable Zebra printers generally have two modes: line mode and page mode. The first step is to do a diagnostic printout and verify the printer mode.

To perform a diagnostic printout:

1. Turn the printer off.
2. Press and hold the green feed button.
3. Turn the printer on continuing to hold the feed button until the LED around the feed button turns red.

The printer should feed a few sheets of paper and then printout all of it's settings. The first line will be the unit serial number and version of firmware. The second line will show the printer's current communication settings, the third line will show the current mode of the printer.

Once this sheet has printed, press the feed button one more time to exit the printer's "dump mode."

Proceed to one of the following sections based on the current mode of the printer.

Line Mode
Text size can be easily changed in Line Mode. Line mode printers require that ALL printer commands be sent to the printer at the beginning of the transmit. The syntax for changing font size on printers in line mode is seen below.

.027%e <ESC>
AXY%e A-ASCII Text command
X-Width: Values 1-7
Y-Height: Values 1-7

Changing the colored variables above will scale the text accordingly altering the width and/or height of the text.

Example - Changing Height and/or Width of Text in Line Mode:

.027%e
A44%e
%e0%e%e162%e%e
.010%e

Text will stay this size until given another font resize command.

Page Mode
Printers set to Page Mode require a bit more complicated command syntax. Below is the syntax for changing font size on printers set to Page Mode.

At,u,v,w,x,y,z,"%e
A=ASCIIText command
t=X position
u=Y position
v=Degree of Rotation
w=Font Size Selection: 8x12,10x16,12x20,14x24,32x48
x=Width: Values 1-7
y=Height: Values 1-7
z=N for normal image, R for reverse

Changing the colored variables above will scale the text accordingly altering the width and/or height of the text.

Changing the colored variables above will scale the text accordingly altering the width and/or height of the text.

Example - Changing Height and/or Width of Text in Page Mode:

A40,90,0,5,1,1,N,"%e
%e80.64%e16512%e%e
"%e

As noted above, text will stay this size until given another font resize command.
