How do I rename an operating parameter?

60 SERIES RENAMING PARAMETERS / UNITS

The GSE 60 Series indicators provide setup parameters to rename the basic operating parameters. For example, the display mode GROSS can be renamed to its Spanish equivalent BRUTO. In the same way NET can become NETO and TARE, TARA. Thus we can easily customize the indicator to conform to a foreign language.

Renaming Operating Parameters
Operating parameters 0 – 46 can be renamed at setup parameters 600 – 646 respectively. For example, to rename GROSS access setup parameter 600, for NET access setup parameter 601, for TARE access setup parameter 602 and so on. Once a parameter has been renamed, the new name will be displayed whenever that operating parameter is accessed.

Entering Parameters Names
A parameter name may be entered using an optional alpha keypad or by scrolling the entry with the cursor keys on the standard keypad. The parameter name must be 5 characters or less if it is to be displayed.

To enter a name using the alpha keypad or serial port, simply key in the desired name and press [ENTER].

To enter a name using the scrolling method proceed as follows:
1. [ 5 ] to scroll through the character set.
2. Once the desired character is displayed, press [ 4 ] to shift right to the next character position.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the entire name is displayed ending at step 1.
4. Press [ENTER] to accept the new name.

Note:
* Pressing [ 6 ] will scroll backwards through the character set.
* Pressing [ 3 ] will shift left, or backspace.
* Pressing [CLR] will clear the current name and revert to the default name.

Choosing Units of Measure
The primary unit of measure is selected at P150. The primary unit is the default calibration unit that provides the basis for all weight-based calculations such as macro math commands which use weight parameters and custom unit conversion factors.

Each scale may have up to 4 different viewable unit selections including lb, kg, oz, g, ftlb, N-m, LbOz and two custom units. Units 1 – 4 are selected at P131 – P134 respectively. The default power-up unit is determined by the selection of P131. Note that the primary unit need not be selected as a viewable unit of measure.

Custom Units
Two custom units can be configured at P151 – P154. Custom units are units derived from the primary unit by virtue of a calibration factor. This provides ultimate flexibility when configuring the indicator for specialized applications where non-standard units such as tons, carats, grains, or volumetric units such as liters or gallons are required.

Custom units can be named at P151 for custom unit #1 and P153 for custom unit #2. Custom units are named in the same method described for renaming parameters.

Once named, a conversion factor must be assigned to convert the primary unit to the custom unit. This conversion factor is assigned at P152 for custom unit #1 and P154 for custom unit #2. Simply key in the conversion value and press [ENTER].

As an example of setting up a custom unit, let us suppose that we wish to display a weight in tons. We know that there are 2000 pounds in 1 ton. Assuming our primary unit is pounds, we must multiply the weight in pounds by 1/2000, or 0.0005, in order to convert the weight to tons. Therefore we can enter 0.0005 at P152 and assign the name ‘Tons’ at P151. Finally, we must select our custom unit as a viewable unit in P131 – P134.
